How to Check if a Website Is Safe to Use
Image from MUO
It is extremely important to know if a website is safe to use. If you end up on a site that has been compromised or has been deliberately designed to be malicious you can be subjected to things such as:
- Identity Theft
- Phishing
- Scareware
- Virus/Malware/Spyware/Ransomware
Knowing what to check and look for is important.
- Only websites with HTTPS in the address are secure sites.
- Double check the spelling of a site's address to ensure you are on the real site.
- Preview links before clicking. When you hover over a link you will get a small popup in the corner showing the actual web address the link will take you to.
You should never submit any information, payment info, or upload files to an unsecured site.

If you need to share your computer with others and there isn't a separate account they can use you should consider locking your browser with a password. This can be done with a browser extension. Consider this as another security measure to protect your privacy.
