Why the name POST? In the world of computers POST stands for Power On Self Test. This is the action computers take when they are first powered on to check their basic functionality prior to loading the operating system. We decided to take this same concept and to provide you with useful technology information at the beginning of your week to help get you started. POST is also a term associated with news as well and we felt this was an appropriate and fitting name.

FAQ of the Week
Is Powering Down Your PC Actually Wearing It Down?
Image from MUO
Each week we will address a frequently asked question. This week we are looking at how powering down may affect your computer.
This is a question we get asked often, even if we've addressed it before. The short answer is no. The actual harm is caused more by the amount of time you leave your computer on. In the linked article you will see that the opposite is true. When you power up your computer it is the amount of initial current draw that actually puts more strain on the internal components.
We typically recommend performing at least one full shutdown or reboot every week. If you will not be using your computer for an extended period of two or more days then we recommend shutting it down. Otherwise, during normal periods of use, you can put the computer to sleep at the end of the day or period when you are done using it.
