Robinhood Suffers a Data Breach: Are You One of the 7 Million People Affected?
Image from MUO
This is just the latest in a long line now of companies that have suffered a data breach.
An unauthorized party used social engineering with a customer support employee by phone to obtain access to “certain customer support systems.”
While there may not be much you can do to prevent a data breach you can take steps to monitor your personal information. Identity monitoring services can monitor many types of data and alert you when it has been discovered. It is possible to learn of other incidents where your information was compromised which is why an identity monitoring service is an important one to have.
There are other steps you can take to secure accounts in case account information was leaked such as enabling two-factor or multi-factor authentication (where available).

5 Times Brute Force Attacks Lead to Huge Security Breaches
Image from MUO
A brute force attack is the process of trying every key on a computer keyboard to find the correct password or login credentials. It's more or less a guessing game.
This is one of the reasons why you hear many IT professionals telling you to use a complex random password that contains at least 12 characters of upper case letters, lower case letters, numbers, and symbols. The longer and more complex a password is the harder it will be to crack or break it.
With the holidays coming up consider buying your friends and family a bit of security and get them a password manager that can help them create and securely store these passwords.

How to Use a Laptop as an External Monitor
Image from MUO
Each week we will address a frequently asked question. This week we are looking at how a laptop can be used as an external monitor.
This is something we've been asked multiple times. Most laptops can only output a video signal and not receive one sent to it. The only way to send an external video source is to use a software application. Essentially this is just another program that will display external content on the laptop but there are some limitations.
Check out the linked article for full details on this process and for a list of some of the available software applications for this purpose.
